DBE WANTS FUNDING TO HELP GRADE 4 PUPILS WITH MEANING FOR UNDRSTANDING

The Department of Basic Education (DBE) has promised to improve the situation of learners after a report indicated that the majority of learners can not read for understanding.

The 2021 Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) revealed that 81% of South African Grade 4 pupils cannot read for meaning.
